About The Turn

I'm Aman. I'm a student, I write code, and I've spent the last couple of seasons stuck in the low-to-mid 90s. This site is what happened when I stopped guessing why.

Most golf improvement content is either swing instruction from people who are already good, or gear reviews. Not much of it is written by someone in the middle of figuring it out, using their own tracked numbers instead of a general tip. That's the gap this site is trying to fill: a bogey golfer's actual data, used to decide what to practice, written up as it happens rather than after the fact.

Why trust the numbers here

I'm not a coach and I don't have a proprietary dataset. Every benchmark used on this site is drawn from commonly published amateur golf statistics and strokes-gained research that's publicly discussed, most of it traceable back to the kind of analysis popularized by Mark Broadie's work on strokes gained. The full arithmetic behind Round X-Ray, including where it's weakest, is written out in this post, on purpose, so nobody has to take a number on faith.

What "in public" means here

The journal isn't a highlight reel. If a practice block doesn't move the numbers, that gets written up too. The goal is a useful record of what worked, not a marketing page dressed up as one.
